The former Steeler offensive guard, David DeCastro, fired back at the owners of Steelers after his release from the team on June 24.
According to Andrew Filipponi, a Pittsburgh radio host, DeCastro made his thoughts clear to Jim Colony, a reporter.
“The owners are billionaires for a reason,” DeCastro said to Colony
The Steeler’s official reason for DeCastro’s release is partially due to concerns over recurring bone spurs in his ankle and DeCastro’s salary cap hit of $57 million. However, according to spotrac.com, DeCastro’s cap salary was listed around $9.7 million dollars. Not the $57 million the Steelers stated, but he was still one of the top 10 highest-paid offensive guards in the 2020 season.
The Steelers did not state the severity of DeCasto’s recurring bone spurs.
Steelers Offensive Line is Looking Different with of David DeCastro
The Steelers have lost many of their veteran offensive linemen this offseason. Maurice Pouncey retired, Alejandro Villanueva and Matt Feiler signed with other teams, and now, DeCastro is out.
With so many offensive linemen gone, Steeler fans wonder what the team is going to do, or rather, who are they going to be bringing on.
One person that is coming on to the team was former free agent, Trial Turner.
Turner signed a one-year contract with the Steelers worth $3 million dollars, which is a third of DeCasto’s salary.
With the timing of DeCastro’s release and Turner signing with the Steelers. It’s no question that Turner is DeCasto’s replacement, with the added bonus of saving a few bucks, it seems.
As DeCastro said, “the powers are billionaires for a reason”
