Charlton, 24, was selected 28th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has just four sacks in his career so far.
The Cowboys made the move to make room for Robert Quinn, who was acquired this offseason. Quinn missed the first two games of the season after having surgery in early August for a broken hand.
Dallas reportedly couldn’t find a trade partner for Charlton.
