On Wednesday, the news that Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich had been fired following an 8-9 season and a Wild Card round loss. Now, with Brady’s exit seemingly imminent, the Bucs have fired five coaches, and three more are retiring from the NFL.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Among the coach firings are Chris Boniol (specialists), Kevin Garver (wide receivers), Jeff Kastl (offensive quality control), Lori Locust (assistant defensive line) and Todd McNair (running backs). Senior offensive assistant Rick Christophel and outside linebackers coach Bob Sanders have decided to retire, along with quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen, who won a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning in Indianapolis.
All of these personnel shifts coupled with the firing of Leftwich paints a grim picture when it comes to Brady returning to Tampa Bay. It seems as if the offensive side of the ball will be completely rebuilt as Tampa expects Tom to move on, either to retirement or another team.
