The Bears and Ravens have negotiated a trade for linebacker Roquan Smith ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. Reportedly, second and fifth round picks are being sent to the Bears in return for Smith, although the exact compensation is not known at time of writing.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Smith was drafted to the Bears in the 2018 NFL Draft with the eighth overall pick of the draft. He was a member of the 2018 Georgia Bulldogs team that made the College Football Playoff championship. Since entering the league, he has made the Second Team All-Pro twice.
In eight games so far in 2022, Smith has two interceptions and three pass deflections. He is the league leader in tackles through eight games, with 83 combined. He also has 2.5 sacks on the season. Smith is now joining the 11th-best defense in the NFL in terms of yards allowed per game.
