The Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett just earned his payday.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the extension Monday afternoon. The contract is worth $68 million over the next four years. In addition, Rapoport states that the defensive tackle will receive $42.5 million in guaranteed money.

July 15, 4 p.m. ET served as the deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign long-term deals. Jarrett signed the Falcons’ franchise tag earlier in the offseason. The tag was worth approximately $15.2 million. Ultimately, the two sides were able to come to an agreement and finalize an extension.
With the new deal, Jarrett will be paid $17 million per year. At his position of interior defensive lineman, only Aaron Donald ($22.5 million) and Fletcher Cox ($17.1 million) have a greater salary. It is a respectable position on the pay scale for Jarrett to be as Donald and Cox are some of the most disruptive players on the defensive front in the NFL.
Over the last few seasons, the Falcons defensive tackle has been reliable at both stopping the run and putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. In his 2018 campaign, Jarrett racked up 52 combined tackles, six sacks and 16 quarterback hits. At only 26-years-old, the defensive tackle continues to progress with each year. Now that he is set with the Falcons for the next four seasons, Jarrett will have another opportunity to improve his game with the team that drafted him.
