Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green will not return to the field for Week 12’s matchup against the Steelers. He has not played a single down in 2019 since suffering an ankle injury on the first day of training camp.
Apparently Green had a setback in his recovery due to swelling. He has not practiced and is continuing rehab on the ankle ligaments.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported his absence will continue on Friday afternoon.
Bengals WR A.J. Green has been ruled out for Sunday vs. Pittsburgh. Wait continues…

Green’s injury history is troubling. Especially considering he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and will be looking for a new contract.
During his nine year career, Green has suffered a chest injury, a shoulder sprain, knee, ankle, and hamstring injuries, and at least one concussion. He most recently missed time with a toe sprain last year, when he sat out the final four games of 2018.
It is becoming increasingly doubtful that he will play at all during the 2019 season. This is horrible news for the 0-10 Bengals, who are trying to avoid their worst start in franchise history. If they fall to the Steelers in Week 12, the 0-11 mark will be an all time low for Cincinnati.
Rookie Ryan Finley will attempt to avoid that dubious honor when the Steelers travel to Cincinnati on Sunday, November 24.
