The Los Angeles Rams and linebacker Bobby Wagner have agreed to part ways. Here are five potential landing spots for Bobby Wagner.
1. Dallas Cowboys
According to Adam Schefter, Wagner wants to join a team with a better chance of winning. The Cowboys made the playoffs and won a game last season. With some additions, they could advance even further next season.
Dallas has Micah Parsons who plays linebacker and edge rusher. They can move Parsons more fully to edge rusher and let Wagner play linebacker with this move. This could help their defense be at its best. If the Cowboys can move some things around, they could afford Wagner under the cap.
2. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have made a big effort to maximize their roster while Justin Herbert is on his rookie deal. They have added veterans like Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson. Last season, they were able to make the playoffs, but were unable to win a game.
Adding Wagner could really help their defense, as they are pretty weak at the linebacker position. They have Kenneth Murray and Drue Tranquill, but the Chargers may need to improve the position if they want to win in the playoffs. Wagner brings playoff and Super Bowl experience. If the Chargers keep investing, Wagner could be a good fit and he would be playing in the same stadium as he did last season.
3. Miami Dolphins
Miami made the playoffs, but their injuries at the quarterback position really caught up to them. They should be expecting to compete if Tua Tagovailoa is healthy. With some improvements, the Dolphins can compete even more in 2023.
While Jerome Baker had a nice season, the Dolphins could really improve with Wagner playing in Miami as well. The defense ranked 24th in points allowed per game and needs to be aggressive this offseason to improve. With Wagner and a healthy Tagovailoa, the Dolphins’ Super Bowl chances will increase.
4. New York Jets
The Jets went 7-10 last season, but there is reason to be optimistic. Robert Salah has the defense playing well and the entire team took a step forward last season. They are also in the market for a veteran quarterback to make them more of a threat.
If they get that quarterback, Wagner could be a good fit with the Jets. They have C.J. Mosley at linebacker, who played decently, but Wagner would be better. The defense could improve, while the offense takes a giant step forward with a new quarterback.
5. New York Giants
Brian Daboll had a great first season as the coach of the Giants and the team made the playoffs. They have a lot to figure out this offseason to make sure they stay playoff contenders. The Giants will need to bring back Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones or find their replacements to have a chance at making the playoffs again.
If they figure out the quarterback and running back situation, they could compete again. The Giants are significantly weak at the linebacker position and signed Jaylon Smith off the street last season. Wagner could fit in and improve their chances of winning, but he likely won’t sign until Barkley and Jones are solidified back with the Giants.
