For the 2023 season, Odunze hauled in 92 passes for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns. His play aided the Huskies in going to the National Championship Game.
Following the National Championship Game, Odunze declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Rome Odunze Strengths
Odunze has the prototypical height for an outside receiver in the NFL. He stands at 6-foot-3, which gives him advantage over smaller defensive backs in the NFL. This gives him a big catch radius and he uses his body well. Odunze can win 50-50 balls and is a threat in the red zone, with a lot of credit going to his size.
Especially given his size, Odunze is a good athlete. He has solid quickness and agility. Odunze has solid top speed and can stretch things vertically. He has excellent body control, which allows him to make acrobatic catches. In the NFL, Odunze can be an athletic mismatch for defensive backs as well.
He isn’t the most elusive, but he is a threat to run after the catch. Odunze has solid field vision and runs to open space. His athleticism comes into play here as well. He uses his solid speed to pick up extra yards and his size can make him difficult to tackle.
Rome Odunze Weaknesses
Odunze can add more strength to his frame. He doesn’t look like his frame is filled out and he may measure in smaller at the combine. This will help him be even more of a physical mismatch for NFL defensive backs. He can use it to beat press coverage more consistently.
Beating physical press coverage is something he needs to work on. Adding strength will help, but he can also work on his footwork during his releases. Doing both of those things will help him get off the line of scrimmage faster and will make him a more open target for his quarterback.
His route-running is solid, but he could improve his craft a bit. Odunze doesn’t always run the crispest routes. He is a smooth athlete and sometimes his routes can come off that way rather than him cutting and creating separation. Odunze can get in and out of his breaks quicker to really separate better.
