The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Quay Walker 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Quay Walker Background
Position:Â Linebacker
Size:Â 6-foot-4, 241 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2021 stats:Â 65 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 3 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery
Walker’s role increased every year he was at Georgia and he developed into a solid draft prospect. He is now entering the draft.
As a Georgia high school player, he was a four-star recruit who decided to stay in-state to play for the Bulldogs. He had just six total tackles as a freshman and 23 tackles in 2019 as a sophomore. While he wasn’t a starter as a junior, he made an impact with 43 total tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. Georgia won eight games, including the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati that season. In 2021, he totaled 65 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. His play helped Georgia win the National Championship Game.
After a career where he progressed every year, Walker is headed to the NFL. He is currently projected to be a day two pick in the draft.
Quay Walker Strengths
Walker has the size of an NFL linebacker. He stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 241 pounds. On top of that, he has long arms that measure in at 32 and 5/8 inches. He won’t need to do much work adding muscle, as he already has an NFL-ready body.
He shows good vision and play recognition. Walker can spot the ball quickly and diagnose where plays are going on the ground. His quick reaction time really helps him, as he isn’t the fastest linebacker in the class. His football intelligence and ability to read plays could help him see the field early in his career.
His ability to stop the run is among the best in the class for a linebacker. He is strong and physical which helps him take on blocks well. His play diagnosis helps him find the ball and he can sometimes get to the ball-carrier before they get to the line of scrimmage. He is also a good tackler to finish run plays off well.
Quay Walker Weaknesses
Walker has some athletic limitations. He isn’t the most flexible and doesn’t have the greatest lateral agility. Walker also just has average play speed despite running well in the 40-yard dash. His athletic limitations may make it hard for him to be a three-down linebacker in the NFL.
He isn’t the best in coverage. Walker struggles to keep up in man-to-man coverage. In zone coverage, he doesn’t read the quarterback’s eyes very well. His lack of closing speed also hurts his zone coverage. Walker may start as just a two-down linebacker in the NFL.
At times, Walker can overrun plays. He is very aggressive in making plays on the football, which leads him to void gaps and to overpursue the football. While most of the time he has good eyes, sometimes he gets a little impatient.
Projected Draft Range:Â Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
