The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Olu Fashanu 2024 NFL Draft Profile.
Olu Fashanu Background
Position: Offensive Tackle
School:Â Penn State
Size:Â 6-foot-6, 317 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2023 stats:Â First Team All-American
Fashanu could’ve been in the 2023 NFL Draft and been selected highly, but returned to school. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a three-star recruit in the class of 2020, Fashanu signed with Penn State out of the Washington D.C. area. He did not play in 2020 and then saw limited playing time in 2021. Fashanu stepped into the starting lineup at left tackle in 2022. He helped Penn State win 11 games and was named a Second Team All-American. In the 2023 season, he moved up to the First Team All-American and Penn State won 10 games for another good season.
Following the 2023 season, Fashanu made the decision to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a top-10 pick.
Olu Fashanu Strengths
Fashanu has solid size for an offensive tackle at the NFL level. He stands at 6-foot-6 and 317 pounds, which is good for an NFL offensive tackle. His size gives him great play strength and he also has good length, which helps him sustain blocks. It looks like he can add some strength to his frame as well.
His athleticism is among the best in the class and he also has good flexibility. He has the ability to get to the second level in the running game, with good straight-forward movement. Fashanu showed he can mirror pass rushers with his reactionary athleticism. He can bend to match bendy pass rushers as well.
He has good functional strength, which shows up in a few areas. Fashanu can really move players in the run game to clear up big holes. He also can sustain blocks on both run and pass plays. His anchor ability helps him deal with power rushers.
Olu Fashanu Weaknesses
Fashanu needs to make sure he keeps his pad level down. He can sometimes lose leverage and give up space to power rushers. While he has good strength, he can get beat by power rushers with some frequency, but winning the leverage battle will help with that.
His hand placement can be inconsistent. He has good power with his hands and even has good timing, but they can land too high. This allows defenders to shed his blocks quicker than usual. Working on his hand placement will help him sustain blocks.
While he has good athleticism and flexibility, there are times when he can struggle to change directions when making blocks on the second level. If the defender is straight ahead, he can make the blocks, but he can miss them when they try to evade him.
Projected Draft Range: Top 10 Pick
Draft Grade: First Round Pick
