While the 2021 NFL Draft is still far off in the distance, players that will be drafted early are on the field now. Each week presents unique matchups for draft prospects and this week is no different. Here are NFL Draft prospects to watch in college football week 5.
1. Trevon Moehrig-Woodard, S, TCU Horned Frogs
After Texas went on the road and had a miraculous comeback against Texas Tech, they will now host TCU. Texas’ offense had a big day against Texas Tech, but will face a new test with TCU. The Horned Frogs have a great safety duo, which includes Trevon Moehrig-Woodard.
Moehrig-Woodard will be tasked with slowing down the Texas passing attack. He has six total tackles this season, which came in their one game against Iowa State. If Moehrig-Woodard plays well, the Horned Frogs could pull of the upset.
2. Kellen Mond, QB, Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond seems like he has been around forever. The senior has passed for 7,568 yards, 53 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in his career. He is athletic and can run, but could work on his accuracy and decision-making.
Mond will have a great opportunity to show what he’s got this week against Alabama. He’ll be going up against a defense that features future pros in Dylan Moses and Patrick Surtain. If Mond has a big day, he could improve his draft stock and help the Aggies pull off the upset.
3. Najee Harris, RB, Alabama Crimson Tide
On the other side of the Alabama-Texas A&M game, Najee Harris will be one to watch. He is a big back that runs hard and is difficult to tackle. Harris is one of the many talented running backs who will be in the 2021 NFL Draft class.
With Mac Jones still getting used to being a starter, Alabama will likely lean on the running game. This is especially true with how difficult their opponent is this week. Harris can prove to be a workhorse running back and can fight for position in the draft class.
4. Seth Williams, WR, Auburn
Another talented position group in this draft class is wide receiver. Seth Williams had a big day for Auburn in their opener against Kentucky. He finished the game with six receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns, helping his case to be drafted early.
This week, Williams will be going up against Georgia. While Georgia has some issues right now, they have plenty of talented players in their secondary. Williams is already trending upward with his solid performance in the opener. With another good game, he could really help his stock.
5. Richard Lecounte III, S, Georgia Bulldogs
One of the gifted athletes in the Georgia secondary is Richard LeCounte. The safety has had a solid career with the Bulldogs with 153 total tackles and seven interceptions. Against Arkansas, LeCounte had three tackles and two interceptions, showing off his ball skills.
This week, LeCounte will have to help stop Williams and the Auburn offense, who look like they will be able to put up points this year. LeCounte can show off his range and ball skills and hopefully help the Bulldogs stop Williams. The safety class is pretty deep, but LeCounte has a chance to stand out.
