The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2023 Las Vegas Bowl.
Utah Utes Draft Prospects
Jonah Elliss, EDGE
Ellis joined Utah in the class of 2021. Each season he has been with the Utes he has improved and has become an impact player. In his career, he has 78 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 16 sacks. This season, he has registered 37 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.
At 6-foot-2 and 246 pounds, Elliss is undersized for an NFL edge rusher. While NFL teams will be looking at his measurables, his pass-rushing production should still make him worth looking at. He could return to school, but if Elliss does enter the draft, he could be a mid-round selection.
Projected Draft Range: 3rd Round Pick-5th Round Pick
Cole Bishop, S
Bishop joined Utah in 2021 and has been a good player throughout his career. During his time as a Ute, he has registered 197 total tackles, three interceptions and 12 passes defended. This season, Bishop has tallied 60 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defended.
He has solid size for an NFL safety at 6-foot-2 and 207 pounds. Like Elliss, Bishop still has eligibility remaining and could return to school. NFL teams will like his ability as a run defender and blitzer. If he does enter the draft, he could be a mid-round pick.
Projected Draft Range: 3rd Round Pick-5th Round Pick
Other Draft Prospects: CB Zemiah Vaughn (4th-6th), IOL Satoa Laumea (4th-6th), TE Brant Kuithe (6th-UFA), TE Thomas Yassmin (6th-UFA), CB Karene Reid (UFA), LB Ethan Calvert (UFA), RB Ja’Quinden Jackson (UFA), CB Miles Battle (UFA), LB Levani Damuni (UFA)
Northwestern Wildcats Draft Prospects
Cam Porter, RB
Porter joined Northwestern in 2020. He missed the 2021 season with an injury, but has otherwise been productive over his career. In his career, he has 1,237 rushing yards, 211 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns. This season, he has 618 rushing yards, 104 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
He has solid size for an NFL running back at 5-foot-10 and 220 pounds. While he has decent production, he has never produced over 1,000 yards in a season. A return to school is a possibility for Porter, who has eligibility remaining.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent
Bryce Gallagher, LB
Gallagher signed on with Northwestern in 2019 and started to make an impact in 2021. In his career, he has racked up 306 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. This season, he has 110 total tackles, four tackles for loss and one sack.
He is 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, which is decent size for an NFL linebacker. Gallagher has shown the ability to diagnose running plays and tackling ball carriers. He could provide better blitzing and coverage, but his path to an NFL roster is likely going to start with special teams.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent
