The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2022 Myrtle Beach Bowl.
Marshall Thundering Herd Draft Prospects
Steven Gilmore, CB
Gimore has been a productive player for the Thundering Herd for five seasons. He has 31 passes defended and nine interceptions in his career. This season, he has registered seven passes defended and three interceptions.
At 6-foot-2 and 169 pounds, Gilmore will have good height and length, but needs to add weight to his frame. Gilmore’s name might sound familiar, as his brother Stephon is currently starring for the Indianapolis Colts. He has shown ball skills over his career, which should translate to the next level.
Projected Draft Range: Fifth Round Pick-Seventh Round Pick
Khalan Laborn, RB
Laborn started his career off at Florida State before transferring to Marshall and playing in 2022. The vast majority of the production in his career has come this season. He has rushed for 1,423 yards and 16 touchdowns on the year. Laborn also has 15 catches for 107 yards.
He has a good build at 5-foot-11 and 212 pounds. Laborn is a bit of a one-year wonder in terms of production, but also won’t have a lot of wear on the tires. He projects as more of a two-down back at the next level, which will limit his stock.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
UConn Huskies Draft Prospects
Jackson Mitchell, LB
Mitchell has been on UConn’s campus for four years, but has been very productive over the last two seasons. In his career, he has 312 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. This season, Mitchell has totaled 133 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
He has ok size at 6-foot-2 and 229 pounds, but could stand to add more strength to his frame. Mitchell is a good tackler, who can track ball carriers down with good pursuit. His coverage will have to be proven at the NFL level.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
Eric Watts, EDGE
Watts has been at UConn since 2019, but has really come on for the Huskies in the last two seasons. In his career, he has 113 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. For the 2022 season, 43 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and six sacks.
At 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, Watts has great size for an edge defender at the NFL level. He only has one good year of production, which could him back. His 2022 season can’t be ignored though and it gives him a chance to be drafted late.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
