The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Kyler Gordon 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Kyler Gordon Background
Position: Cornerback
Size:Â 5-foot-11, 194 pounds
Class:Â Redshirt Junior
2021 stats:Â 29 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 5 passes defended
Gordon received playing time in all four seasons at Washington. Now he is leaving the school to go to the NFL Draft.
He was a four-star recruit who decided to stay in-state to play for the Huskies. Washington played him in four games in 2018 and redshirted him. He started four games as a redshirt freshman in 2019, totaling 32 tackles and four passes defended. Gordon started just one of four games in 2020, posting 18 total tackles and one pass defended. In 2021, Gordon broke out as a Pac-12 First Team player with seven passes defended and two interceptions. Washington struggled in Gordon’s final year, finishing with a 4-8 record.
After the 2021 season ended, Gordon declared for the 2022 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first to second-round pick.
Kyler Gordon Strengths
Gordon is a very good athlete for the corner position. He has good short-area quickness and burst, as well as agility. On top of that, he also has decent long speed. For his size, he has good strength as well. He also jumps very well to help him combat balls in the air.
At this point of his career, he is better in man-to-man coverage than in zone. He can rely on his athletic traits to mirror receivers well. Gordon plays well if he starts off of the line of scrimmage. He then stays with his man throughout the rep well.
His versatility is also an asset. Gordon is a solid outside corner, but also has the potential to play nickel at the next level. His good short-area quickness really helps him in the slot, as that is where more of the agile receivers in the game line up.
Kyler Gordon Weaknesses
Gordon doesn’t have good recognition skills. There are times when he doesn’t read the quarterback well and also times when he doesn’t understand what routes receivers will run against him. He also looks like he reacts just a step too slow at times.
His recognition skills improving would help him in zone coverage. He needs to read the quarterback’s eyes better and then show a good closing burst on the ball. Gordon has the athletic traits to be good in zone coverage, but needs to react more quickly. More eye balance between the receiver and quarterback is necessary.
While he has shown the ability to lay down some big hits, there are also times when he misses tackles he should make. He needs to show better form tackling in order to limit big plays and to be able to help more against the run.
Projected Draft Range:Â First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
