The 2021 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Kary Vincent 2021 NFL Draft profile.
Background
Position:Â Safety/Nickel Corner
Size:Â 5-foot-10, 189 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2019 stats:Â 47 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, eight passes defended
Although the SEC played this season, LSU defensive back Kary Vincent decided to forgo his remaining eligibility. The senior defensive back chose to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Texas native was a four-star recruit out of high school and chose to play for the Tigers. He played sparingly as a freshman, totaling nine tackles, an interception and a pass defended. As a sophomore, he saw more regular playing time, producing 31 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1.0 tackles for loss, one interception and four passes defended. His play helped LSU go 10-3 with a win over UCF in the Fiesta Bowl. In his junior season, Vincent had 47 total tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions and eight passes defended. The Tigers were able to go undefeated and win the National Championship with help from Vincent.
Vincent, who was also a member of the track team, will be another one of the talented defensive backs drafted out of LSU. He is currently projected to be taken on day two of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Strengths
Vincent can move. He was very fast as a member of the LSU track team, but that speed also translates over to the football field. Vincent is able to keep up with even the fastest receivers in the game because of his speed. He is also able to be trusted in a deep zone, as he can cover a lot of ground and prevent opposing teams from taking deep shots.
His versatility will also be an asset in the NFL. He will likely not be used as an outside corner very often, but Vincent can play both in the slot or as a safety for defenses at the pro level. This versatility will be critical to making him a viable option for most NFL teams. He will be able to stay on the field and be moved around to best fit the scheme he is playing in.
He has an eye for the football as well. Vincent does a good job at judging where the football will be and then has the speed to go and get it. He has great ball skills, which came in handy often at LSU. Once he is in position to make a play, Vincent has the ability to make the catch, as he displayed a few one-handed catches for the Tigers.
Weaknesses
His size is well below the norm for a corner or safety in the NFL. At 5-foot-10 and 189 pounds, there will be times in the NFL where Vincent is outmatched, especially if teams have bigger slot receivers. His size is also the biggest thing keeping him from being an outside cornerback at the next level.
Vincent will not offer much help in run support. He has trouble shedding blocks, so he has to elude them to get to the ball carrier. This leads to him taking bad angles to the football. If he is able to get to the ball, he isn’t the best tackler either.
While he has shown that he can be a good man and zone corner, he could improve his anticipation. He has great reactive quickness, but could make more plays if he anticipates routes better. His reactionary play makes him susceptible to double-moves, as he will try to react to the first cut rather than anticipating the second one that comes after.
Projected Draft Range:Â Second Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
