The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Jordan Battle 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Safety
School: Alabama
Size: 6-foot-1, 209 pounds
Class: Senior
2022 Stats: 71 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 2 passes defended
Battle was one of the most experienced players in college football after spending all four seasons at Alabama. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As a four-star prospect out of Florida, Battle joined Alabama in the class of 2019. He ended up starting four games as a true freshman with 30 total tackles, one pass defended and one interception. Battle stepped into the starting lineup full-time as a sophomore, tallying 66 tackles, four passes defended and one interception. His play helped Alabama win the National Championship that season. In 2021, Battle had 85 total tackles, three passes defended and three interceptions. His play helped Alabama go 13-2 with an appearance in the College Football Playoff. He decided to return for his senior season. Battle totaled 71 tackles, one interception and two passes defended. He led the Crimson Tide to a 11-2 record and a win in the Sugar Bowl.
Following his appearance in the Sugar Bowl, Battle declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is a projected day-two pick.
Jordan Battle Strengths
Battle has an NFL-ready frame. He stands 6-foot-1 and 209 pounds which is above the average for prospects entering the NFL. With his size comes good play strength for the position. He also has solid length with 32-inch arms, which helps contest catches and gives him a big tackle radius.
His high football IQ allows him to be a versatile safety. He can line up as a deep split safety, but also has some ability to cover the slot. He can play zone, as long as it isn’t single-high, and man-to-man. Battle uses his awareness and instincts to be successful in several different alignments.
He is a solid athlete for a safety. Battle has good speed, especially considering that he is a bigger safety prospect. He can change direction and has the jumping ability to contest catches. When he plays downhill, he shows that he can catch up to ball carriers quickly.
Jordan Battle Weaknesses
Battle could improve his tackling ability. He has shown that he can lay down big hits, but sometimes he goes searching for those too much. Battle needs to focus on making good form tackles and completing plays rather than letting ball carriers elude him.
His willingness to help against the run was inconsistent. With his tackling needing to improve, Battle also showed a tendency to take aggressive angles to the ball that didn’t always work out. If he is able to contain runs and take better angles to the ball, he will be a much better player.
While he can be trusted in man-to-man coverage against tight ends, receivers have given him some trouble. He can struggle to mirror quicker wide receivers and give up big plays. Teams can use him in man-to-man against receivers, but it shouldn’t be with great frequency.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second-Round Pick
