Trotter was a star linebacker for Clemson over the last two seasons. Now he will be following in his father’s footsteps in heading to the NFL.
As a four-star recruit in the class of 2021, Trotter signed with Clemson out of Pennsylvania. He didn’t play much as a freshman, registering 15 total tackles. Trotter stepped into the starting lineup in 2022, registering 89 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. His play helped Clemson win 11 games on the season. He remained impactful in 2023 with 88 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. Trotter led the team to a nine-win season.
Following the season, Trotter declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is a projected second or third-round pick.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Strengths
Trotter sees the field very well. He can read things pre-snap that give him clues to what the play is going to be. After the snap he shows quick diagnosis and is able to make plays on the ball because of that. He is a very aware and intelligent player, who processes things quickly.
While he isn’t the biggest player, he does have good strength. He is 230 pounds, which is great for his height. Trotter uses his strength to shed blocks. For his height, he has filled out his frame well and will fit in at the NFL level right away.
His diagnosis helps him be in position to make tackles and he often can end the play. He shows good form tackling and can lay down some big hits as well. Trotter can be trusted to bring ball carriers down in space if he has them within his reach.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Weaknesses
While he has good strength, his height and length might give NFL teams a reason to move him down draft boards. He was listed at just 6-foot. With his height, he also has limited length. His strength helps him shed, but blockers who have longer arms than him can latch on to him for longer than teams will like.
His athleticism and range aren’t at elite levels for a prospect. Trotter is a solid athlete, but will not test with elite numbers. He can still make plays because of his awareness, but Trotter doesn’t have sideline-to-sideline range like some other players in the class. He has solid agility and good quickness, so plays coming inside are more likely to be stopped than ones on the outside.
Trotter may have trouble in coverage early in his career. He won’t be as athletic as some running backs and tight ends he will be asked to cover man to man. In zone coverage, he shows good eye balance at times, but can sometimes lose receivers in his zone.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
