The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Isaiah Likely 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Isaiah Likely Background
Position:Â Tight End
Size:Â 6-foot-4, 240 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2021 stats:Â 59 receptions, 912 receiving yards, 12 touchdown catches, 15.5 yards per reception
Likely was not well-known just a few years ago, but developed well over his time at Coastal Carolina. Now he is one of the better tight ends in the 2022 NFL Draft class.
He was underrecruited as a two-star wide receiver out of high school, so he chose to play for Coastal Carolina. Likely saw the field a little bit as a freshman and had 12 receptions for 106 yards and five touchdowns. His role increased in his sophomore season, as he had 32 receptions for 431 yards and five touchdowns. Despite his personal success, the Chanticleers went just 5-7 that season. The 2020 season was great for Likely, as he finished the season with 30 receptions for 431 yards and five touchdowns. Coastal Carolina had a historic season, finishing 11-1 in 2020. Likely returned for his senior season in 2021 and hauled in 59 passes for 912 yards and 12 touchdowns. Coastal Carolina had another solid season, finishing the year with an 11-2 record.
After helping bring Coastal Carolina’s program to new heights, Likely is headed to the NFL. He is currently projected to be a second to third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Isaiah Likely Strengths
He was recruited as a wide receiver, so his athleticism is better than most tight ends. Likely has good speed, agility and body control. All of these things help to make him a matchup problem for safeties and linebackers. He can create separation and win contested catches because of his athleticism.
His change of direction ability helps him run routes well. He can get in and out of his breaks quickly to create separation from those in man coverage. During his routes, he changes speed to help him get open. Likely can also find the soft spot versus zone coverage.
Likely is a threat for big plays in multiple ways. He is good at running after the catch because of his speed and elusiveness. His ability to high point the ball helps him win jump balls. On top of that, Likely is a red zone threat, as the mismatch he provides is especially effective near the end zone.
Isaiah Likely Weaknesses
He will need to add some strength to his frame. At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, he has adequate size for a tight end, but he will be undersized for an in-line tight end. If he can add some strength to his frame, he will look more the part and it will help him battle on the line of scrimmage.
While he showed good effort as a blocker, he isn’t the most effective. Adding strength will help him win at the point of attack, but he also needs to show better technique. He can keep his pad level low and have better hand placement. With the effort there, Likely can improve with time.
His ability to run routes is generally pretty good, but there are times when he rounds off routes rather than really sticking his foot in the ground and cutting. He needs to sell his routes a little better to create more separation, especially when going up against NFL-level athletes.
Projected Draft Range:Â Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
