The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Isaiah Foskey 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Edge Rusher
School: Notre Dame
Size: 6-foot-5, 264 pounds
Class: Redshirt Junior
2022 Stats: 44 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery
Foskey was a very productive pass rusher for Notre Dame, specifically over the last two seasons. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Out of high school in California, Foskey was a four-star recruit that signed with Notre Dame. He played in four games in 2019, registering five tackles. Foskey stepped up in 2020 with 20 total tackles, five tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. His play aided the Fighting Irish in going 10-2 and making the College Football Playoff. He stepped into a full-time starting role in 2021, delivering 52 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Notre Dame went 11-2 and made the Fiesta Bowl that season. In 2022, Foskey registered 44 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. He led the Fighting Irish to a 8-4 regular season record and a Gator Bowl appearance.
After opting out of the Gator Bowl, Foskey declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two pick.
Isaiah Foskey Strengths
Foskey has an NFL-ready body, as he stands 6-foot-5 and 264 pounds. With his size comes good play strength already, although he could stand to add some more strength to help his anchoring ability. His size and strength are great in addition to his length, as he has 34-inch arms.
In any way you look at it, Foskey produces big plays. He had double-digit sacks in each of his last two seasons with Notre Dame and some tackles for loss as well. In those last two seasons, he showed a knack for knocking the ball lose with seven forced fumbles. He has solid pass rushing moves, including a nice ghost move, and a good motor to get sacks on secondary effort.
He has special teams experience and made an impact. Foskey blocked four punts during his Notre Dame career. If he is a rotational defensive lineman to start his career, he can impact a team with special teams play while he develops as an edge rusher.
Isaiah Foskey Weaknesses
Foskey is an ok athlete, but he lacks flexibility. He is not a player that wins by bending around the edge. Foskey currently wins with his pass rushing moves, converting speed to power and secondary effort. He may be a candidate to move inside on pass rushing downs because he won’t win by getting around the edge.
He could improve his run defense. While he has good pursuit, Foskey needs to set the edge better against the run and contain runs to the inside. If he is able to improve that, he could go from an average run defender to a better one.
His hands will need more work at the NFL level. He could have better placement and timing, but his hands could also be more powerful. Getting his hands ready early will help him, but there is a lot of work to be done.
Projected Draft Range: SecondRound Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third-Round Pick
