Rakestraw created a huge impact in his career at Missouri, which really helped the program progress. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a three-star prospect in the class of 2020, Rakestraw signed with Missouri out of Texas. He started as a true freshman, registering 24 tackles and six passes defended. Missouri won six games that season. Rakestraw only played in four games before suffering a season-ending injury in 2021. He returned to the lineup in 2022, totaling 35 total tackles, one interception and 12 passes defended. His play helped the Tigers win six games again. In 2023, Rakestraw tallied 35 tackles and four passes defended. He led the Tigers to an 11-win season.
Following the 2023 season, Rakestraw declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second round pick.
Ennis Rakestraw Strengths
Rakestraw is generally a good athlete in a few different ways. He has good quickness and short-area burst. Rakestraw also has good agility and decently fluid hips. He can jump well enough to high-point the football as well.
He was good in press-man coverage over his college career. Rakestraw showed physicality at the line of scrimmage to bump receivers off their routes. He has the ability to flip his hips to turn and run with the receiver as well. Rakestraw can stay attached throughout a rep and be in good position.
His versatility will help his draft stock as well. Rakestraw could play either on the outside or in the slot at the next level. He is good in the slot because he can help in run support as well, something he is above average at. His good short-area burst could mean that playing in the slot is the better option, but being able to play both only helps him.
Ennis Rakestraw Weaknesses
Rakestraw doesn’t have the greatest speed in the class. He can get beat vertically by receivers. Rakestraw ran a better 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine than expected, which helps, but his play speed could cause some problems at the NFL level.
His ball skills were inconsistent throughout his Missouri career. Rakestraw can struggle to track and find the ball in coverage. He is usually busy playing the man rather than the ball. While his coverage is solid, big plays shouldn’t be expected.
He has some good physical coverage and some bad. Rakestraw can get grabby when trying to keep up with faster receivers. While he got away with that a lot in college, that will be called in the NFL. He will need to trust his technique and help at the next level.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
