The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Christian Harris 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Christian Harris Background
Position:Â Linebacker
Size:Â 6-foot-1, 226 pounds
Class:Â Junior
2021 stats:Â 80 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 3 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles
Harris was a three-year starter for the Alabama Crimson Tide and helped them win a National Championship in 2020. He is now headed to the NFL.
Out of high school, Harris was a four-star recruit who chose to leave the state of Louisiana to play for Alabama. As a freshman, he registered 61 total tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. The Crimson Tide won 11 games including the Citrus Bowl. In Alabama’s National Championship-winning season, Harris totaled 79 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Harris returned for 2021 with 80 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. Alabama made the Championship Game with help from Harris, but ultimately lost to Georgia.
Following the National Championship Game, Harris decided to forego his remaining eligibility to go pro. He is currently projected to be a day two pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Christian Harris Strengths
Harris is a good athlete for the linebacker position. He has really good quickness and lateral agility. To go with his short-area quickness, he shows good long speed, which helps him pursue ball carriers and cover well. He is pretty flexible as well and is one of the best athletes at the position in the draft.
He shows decent man-to-man coverage that is helped by his mobility. When covering someone, he stays tight and mirrors his man well. In zone coverage, he shows good eyes and can break on the football once he realizes where the quarterback is going with the ball.
His ability to blitz is also special. He shows good recognition of how to time his blitz and his speed really helps him. Harris closes down on quarterbacks quickly and can affect their throws. He picked up some key sacks down the stretch for Alabama.
Christian Harris Weaknesses
Harris is a very small linebacker. He is just over 6-feet tall and weighs just 226 pounds. While he does have long arms, he needs to add to his frame. He doesn’t have the greatest play strength, which makes it harder for him to shed blocks.
His eyes can sometimes fool him. Whether it is an RPO, play-action, trick plays or even normal plays, he can misread the play, which puts him a step behind. He’ll need to work on his play recognition and pick up blocking schemes quicker.
There are a few things holding back his run defense. As mentioned, his play recognition can have him a step behind and he can struggle to shed blocks. His ability to pursue ball carriers is really good, but that will only go so far at the next level.
Projected Draft Range:Â Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
