The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Chad Muma 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Chad Muma Background
Position:Â Linebacker
Size:Â 6-foot-3, 239 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2021 stats:Â 142 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, 2 touchdowns
Muma had a monster of a senior season to help his status as a draft prospect. He is carrying that momentum into the NFL Draft.
As a three-star prospect out of Colorado, Muma decided to go to Wyoming for college. He contributed on special teams as a freshman before contributing more on defense as a sophomore. Muma had 51 total tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. The Cowboys won eight games including the Arizona Bowl that season. Muma 71 tackles in just six games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Wyoming struggled with a 2-4 record. He had his best season as a senior, when he registered 142 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Muma helped Wyoming go 7-6 and win the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
After tracking down a lot of ball carriers in college, Muma is taking his talents to the pro level. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick in the draft.
Chad Muma Strengths
Muma has solid size for the NFL. At 6-foot-3 and 239 pounds, Muma will not have to add much to his current build before getting ready to play at the pro level. He has decent arm length as well, which added with his strength, helps him shed.
He stops the run very well, as he has a great nose for the football. Muma reads plays well from the start and can shed blocks coming his way or slip around them. He has solid pursuit of ball carriers and can lay down big hits, as well as form tackles to complete plays against the run.
Against both the pass and the run, Muma has good, disciplined eyes. He can diagnose where running plays are going quickly and then gets after the ball carrier. As a zone coverage defender, he reads quarterback’s eyes well and can usually get a decent jump on a play.
Chad Muma Weaknesses
Muma has decent straight-line athleticism but isn’t great at changing directions. On top of that, he doesn’t have great flexibility. This hurts him when he misreads plays and in coverage. When covering shifty tight ends or running backs, his lack of agility plays a role.
As mentioned, coverage can give him problems. He has trouble mirroring in man-to-man coverage. While he has good eyes in zone coverage, he doesn’t have the athleticism to close down on routes. Muma is currently a two-down linebacker.
Another reason that he may be a two-down linebacker, is that he doesn’t convert on his blitzes very often. He simply doesn’t have the closing speed or ability to shed to get to the quarterback very often. Muma’s nose for the football will keep him on the field for the early downs, but unless he can cover or blitz better, he will stay on the field for the early downs.
Projected Draft Range:Â Second Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
