Lamb went into Oklahoma as a four-star recruit and got better every season he was on campus. After three seasons improving his craft, he is now one of the premier wide receivers and players in the 2020 NFL Draft class.
In his freshman season, Lamb had 46 receptions for 807 yards and seven touchdowns. His presence helped Oklahoma reach the College Football Playoff in 2017. The Sooners got back to the College Football Playoff in 2018 with Lamb totaling 65 receptions for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdown catches. It was more of the same for Lamb and the Sooners in 2019. They reached the College Football Playoff and Lamb had 62 receptions for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdown receptions.
After being one of the most electric players in college football, Lamb is ready to show what he can do in the NFL. Lamb is likely going to be selected early in the first round and should be one of the first wide receivers off the board.
Strengths
Lamb is great with the ball in his hands. His run after catch ability is among the best in the class. He is quick and has good moves to keep defenders off balance. Every time he touches the ball he is a threat to score, which is why Oklahoma featured him in a lot of screens and drag routes.
He has good hands, as he tracks the ball well and can go up and get the ball through contact. Lamb is a natural catcher with his hands and rarely has drops. He has strong hands and makes contested catches on a semi-regular basis.
His route-running ability is also among the best in the class. He ran a wide variety of routes at Oklahoma and ran them well. Lamb has good releases and is able to get in and out of breaks very quickly. Because he runs routes so well, he will be able to get open at the NFL level.
Weaknesses
While he is very quick, Lamb does not have the best long speed. This may limit the number of times he can break away on long runs after catches, but he makes up for it with his moves. While this would cause other receivers issues with separation, Lamb should be able to overcome that.
Lamb needs to add play strength to be a more well-rounded receiver. He can use the strength to add to his physicality as a receiver to help him get open. This will also help him sustain blocks in the running game, which can be inconsistent for Lamb.
His effort when blocking can be hit or miss. Sometimes he will lay big blocks down that will spring a big gain for the offense. Other times he gets disinterested and doesn’t do much of anything. Keeping him involved and engaged in the offense should help.
