Strong has been one of the best quarterbacks in college football over the last three seasons. Now, he is one of the best quarterback prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft.
In high school, Strong was a three-star recruit, who chose to leave the state of California to play for Nevada. He redshirted his first year on campus, but entered the starting lineup as a redshirt freshman. He passed for 2,335 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 63.4 percent completion. Nevada went 7-6 with Strong starting 10 games. Strong passed for 2,858 yards, 27 touchdowns and four interceptions on 70.1 percent completion in 2020. His improvement helped the team post a 7-2 record. In his third year as the starter, Strong had 4,186 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 70.2 percent completions. The Wolf Pack posted an 8-5 record for the 2021 season.
Following his vast improvement as a player over three seasons, Strong decided to go pro. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Carson Strong Strengths
Strong has solid size for an NFL quarterback. He stands at 6-foot-4 and 216 pounds, which are both good for the position. His height allows him to see over the line of scrimmage. Strong also has decent strength for the quarterback position.
His arm strength is his biggest asset. Strong can make any throw asked of him at the next level. He gets a lot of velocity on his passes and can make them in tight windows. Strong also can make throws to outside the numbers. On top of his ability to put the ball places outside the numbers and in tight windows, he is able to push the ball downfield consistently with a good deep ball.
He has solid accuracy to all areas of the field. Strong is able to put throws on the money in the short and intermediate areas of the field, which allows his receivers to run after the catch. He also has a nice deep ball and completed several downfield throws during his college career.
Carson Strong Weaknesses
Strong is a pure pocket passer. He doesn’t offer much as an athlete, so playing out of structure will not suit him. The good news is that he can maneuver the pocket well by feeling and avoiding pressure. Offenses that want to have the threat of the quarterback running the football won’t be able to utilize Strong.
When pressure comes, Strong is usually pretty poised, but he does have decreased accuracy. On top of that he needs to stand tall in the pocket and deliver the ball well. He often times will throw off his back foot when pressure is coming, which throws off his accuracy and power.
His strong arm is a gift, but there are times where he believes in his arm too much. Strong will try to fit the ball into really tight windows and sometimes turnovers come from it. Fitting the ball in between the corners and safeties can be a problem at times because of the trust in his arm, as the safeties read his eyes and make a play on the ball.
Projected Draft Range:Â First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
