Hart was a key part of some good Notre Dame defenses during his career. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a three-star recruit in the class of 2019, Hart signed with Notre Dame out of Maryland. He played in three games in 2019 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Hart played more in 2020, but was still a backup. He stepped into the starting lineup in 2021 with 41 total tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended. His play helped the Fighting Irish win 11 games. In 2022, Hart totaled 25 tackles and four passes defended. Notre Dame won nine games that season. For the 2023 season, he tallied 21 tackles and four passes defended.
Following the 2023 season, Hart declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He currently is projected to be a mid-round pick.
Cam Hart Strengths
Hart has great size for the cornerback position. He stands 6-foot-2 and 202 pounds, which is above the average for the position. To go with his size, he has long arms which measure in at 33 inches. His frame will help him match up with bigger receivers on the outside, much like he did against Marvin Harrison Jr.
He is a good athlete, especially given his size. Hart has good acceleration and solid long speed, which helps him match up with receivers down the field. He also has loose hips, allowing him to change direction and mirror receivers well.
His awareness is also great for the position. Hart has good route recognition and knows how receivers will be attacking him. He can diagnose things quickly, which helps him shut down receivers. This awareness specifically helps him in zone coverage.
Cam Hart Weaknesses
Hart has had surgeries on both shoulders during his career. He has recovered and played well, so it shouldn’t be an issue, but as always teams will have to look into it. If there is long-term damage, he may fall down some draft boards.
There wasn’t much ball production for Hart during his career. He can shut down opponents, but does have trouble turning his head to find the football. Hart can do a better job of tracking the ball and attacking the catchpoint.
He has the size to be a much more impactful run defender. Hart needs to show an effort to get off blocks or elude them. Once he gets through traffic he can also tackle better. There are things he can improve with his technique, but ultimately he just needs more determination to stop the run.
Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
Draft Grade: Fourth Round Pick
