The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Broderick Jones 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Broderick Jones Background
Position: Offensive Tackle
School: Georgia
Size: 6-foot-4, 310 pounds
Class: Redshirt Sophomore
2022 stats: First Team All-SEC
Jones has limited experience compared to other prospects, but was able to prove his skill at Georgia. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As an in-state five-star prospect, Jones decided to play his college ball for the Georgia Bulldogs. He redshirted his first year on campus, but did see action at the end of the season. Jones started by the end of the 2021 season and made the Coaches’ First All-SEC Team. He helped Georgia win the National Championship that season. Jones entered the starting lineup on a full-time basis during the 2022 season and was named First Team All-SEC by the media. His play led the Bulldogs to another win in the National Championship.
Following back-to-back championships, Jones declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is a projected first-round pick.
Broderick Jones Strengths
Jones is an elite athlete for the offensive tackle position. He shows his athleticism by getting out of his stance at the snap of the ball quickly. His ability to move laterally is among the best in the class and he can also go and get up the field at an extremely fast pace. He has good flexibility and may be the best athlete at his position in the class.
His frame is a great starting point for the NFL. While he is 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, the encouraging thing about him is his length. He has great length for the position and knows how to use it too. He extends his arms, which makes it hard for defenders to disengage from his blocks.
He has a great mentality for an offensive lineman. Jones is always looking for work and plays through the whistle. His motor is great and with his athleticism, he can make blocks down the field. He shows a want to be physical on almost all of reps. It is very apparent that Jones wants to be the aggressor.
Broderick Jones Weaknesses
His technique will need a lot of work for the next level. While his hands are strong, he often misplaced them. His hands often go too wide, which allows defenders to get too close to him. He also sometimes tries to punch with one arm and it doesn’t always land. Fixing his hand placement will be one of the first things an offensive line coach will work on with Jones.
He also needs to work on his pad level. Jones can start with too high of a pad level, but even when he starts off with the proper pad level, he can gradually raise it too much. This makes him lose his power. He also lunges and gets thrown off balance too much. While his aggressiveness is nice, he needs to stay patient and not lean or lunge.
Adding play strength will only enhance his game. He doesn’t have great weight for the position and could be overpowered at the next level. Getting more strength will help him sustain blocks and deal with power rushers. His strength is decent now, but to be a more complete tackle, he should add a little bit more.
