The Spurs suffered their first loss of Summer League on Sunday despite 27 points from Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs never led in this one, losing 85-80.
Wemby looked like his normal self, scoring 27 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking three shots. He went 9-14 from the field and 2-4 from deep. This was a major step up after his horrific first Summer League game.
Malaki Branham struggled offensively in this one. He had only six points and shot just 1-17 from the field and 1-8 from beyond the arc.
Julian Champagnie also struggled, scoring just four points on 1-6 shooting. Dominick Barlow continued to impress this summer, scoring 17 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Barlow, still unsigned, is looking like he could be a great add to the Spurs’ roster for this upcoming season.
Second-year player, Blake Wesley, played very well. He scored 14 points and helped the Spurs go on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter. He was able to use his speed to get to the rim and played well defensively.
Despite this, the Spurs were unable to overcome Michael DeVoe’s 29 points for the Blazers. The Spurs move to 3-1 in the Summer League and 1-1 in Las Vegas. The silver and black will look to bounce back on Tuesday, July 11 against the Washington Wizards.
