The 2024 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Tyler Kolek 2024 NBA Draft Profile.
Tyler Kolek Background

Kolek may have started college playing mid-major basketball, but finished in the Big East. He is now in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As an unranked recruit out of Rhode Island, Kolek signed to play with George Mason out of high school. He averaged 10.8 points and 2.3 assists per game for the Patriots. Following his first season with the school, Kolek transferred to Marquette. In his first year with the Golden Eagles, he stepped into the starting lineup, averaging 6.7 points and 5.9 assists. With some development, he won the Big East Player of the Year in 2022-2023, with 12.9 points and 7.5 assists per game. He helped the Golden Eagles make the NCAA Tournament in his first two years, but they did not make the second weekend. That changed in 2023-2024, when Kolek led them to the Sweet 16 behind averages of 15.1 points and 7.7 assists per game.
Following a stellar career at George Mason and Marquette, Kolek declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a late first or early second-round pick.
Tyler Kolek Strengths
Kolek’s greatest skill is his passing. He can find teammates through tight windows to get them open shots. Kolek operates the pick and roll well, seeing the floor clearly as he does. He can hit the screener or players on the perimeter for open shots. He can run an offense and team if called upon because of how well he passes and runs a team.
There will be concerns about Kolek’s finishing ability due to his size, but for his size, he finishes very well. He won’t dunk, but he can avoid contact and lay the ball in. He can also finish through contact. His ability to penetrate and finish in the lane opens up the floor more for his entire team, helping to open up passing lanes for him to hit teammates with passes.
He showed the ability to shoot off the catch and off of the dribble at Marquette. Kolek hit over 38 percent of his 3-point shots last season at Marquette. His ability to shoot was pretty consistent over his last two years of college. He also knocked down 85 percent fo his free throws last season for the Golden Eagles.
Tyler Kolek Weaknesses
Kolek is one of the smaller guards in this draft class. He stands just over 6-foot-1. While he is well-built for his size, he doesn’t have desirable measurables. His lack of size and length can really hurt him defensively, but also makes his finishing at the basket much more difficult than it is for other players.
Partially due to his size, Kolek will find it hard to defend at the next level. Most point guards will have quicker feet than he has, which will make it hard for him to stay in front of his man. They will also be bigger, so they can overpower him. He will have to work to get through screens and stay with his man.
He hit a solid percentage of his shots, so teams may not want to mess with it, but his release can be improved. It is a little slower than normal and could let defenders close in on him quicker than he can get his shot off. Speeding up his release can help him get more shots.
Projected Draft Range: Late First Round Pick-Early Second Round Pick
