The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2024 New Orleans Bowl.
Georgia Southern Eagles Draft Prospects
Marques Watson-Trent, LB
Watson-Trent started playing for Georgia Southern in 2020. Although he didn’t play much in his first two seasons at the school, he really stood out over the last three years. This season, he won Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year after registering 110 total tackles and eight tackles for loss.
At 5-foot-11 and 225 pounds, Watson-Trent is undersized for the position. He has shown good pursuit and a nose for the ball over the last three seasons. While he could add some weight, his best shot at making a roster might be on special teams.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
Jalen White, RB
White has been a very productive running back for Georgia Southern over the last five seasons. After getting some experience his first few seasons, he really broke out in 2022. He has continued to play well and in 2024, White had 654 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.
At 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, White has great size for the running back position. He has some receiving production during his career, but isn’t a main facet of his game. White will likely have to play special teams to help make a roster, but his power can help as well.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
Other Draft Prospects: OT Bryson Broadway (6th-UFA), IOL Pichon Wimbley (6th-UFA), DB Marc Stampley (6th-UFA), IOL Caleb Cook (UFA)
Sam Houston State Bearkats Draft Prospects
Qua’Vez Humphreys, WR
Humphreys started his college career at the JUCO level. He then transferred to Sam Houston State for the 2023 season, but didn’t play. After getting on the field in 2024, he was productive. In 2024, he registered 18 catches for 362 yards and four touchdowns.
He stands 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, which is an excellent size for a wide receiver prospect. Humphreys can use his size to his advantage to win and set himself apart. He still has eligibility remaining, so a return to school could really help his stock.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent
Hunter Watson, QB
Watson started his career at the DII level at Arkansas Monticello, then moved up to the JUCO level at Iowa Western CC. In 2024, he transferred to Sam Houston State. He played a lot of quarterback for Sam Houston State, passing for 1,598 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 60.1 percent completion.
He has decent size at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. A lot of Sam Houston State’s team is in the transfer portal, so Watson will have a lot of heavy lifting to do, but it could help his stock. He will likely return to school next season to really put himself on the NFL’s radar.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent
