Castle played just one season for UConn, but impressed enough to put him on NBA Draft big boards. He is now in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As a five-star prospect out of Georgia, Castle signed with UConn. In his lone season with the Huskies, he averaged 11.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He missed some time with an injury, but was able to return to the lineup and create an impact. Castle helped the team win the National Championship.
Following the National Championship win, Castle declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a top five pick.
Stephon Castle Strengths
Castle has good size for a guard. At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, Castle should be able to match up with several different positions on the perimeter. He also has a solid wingspan to go with his height and weight. Castle can fill out his frame a little more, but has a good starting point for the NBA. With his size, Castle has solid athleticism. While it won’t be elite, he can more than hold his own at the NBA level.
His ability to finish near the rim is great for his size. He can finish with a dunk or layup. When he runs into contact, he is able to play through it and finish well. He has the ability to finish using either hand, with some creativity to avoid shot blockers when he needs to.
He has the potential to be a really good on-ball defender. Castle has the size and length to guard multiple positions on the perimeter. He has decent foot speed and can stay in front of opposing guards trying to penetrate. While he won’t fill up the stat sheet with steals or blocks, he can play good defense to help his team win games. His off-ball defense is also solid.
Stephon Castle Weaknesses
For Castle to reach his full potential as a player, he needs to work on his shooting. At just 26.7 percent from 3-point range, Castle won’t space the floor very well. He has shown that he can get on hot-streaks, he just needs to be more consistent. His free throw shooting can also improve.
While Castle can operate the pick and roll decently, he does have troubles creating offense. He doesn’t often score in isolation opportunities. He will have to work on creating his own shot, but he can also continue to improve on finding good passing lanes to set up teammates for easy baskets as well.
He is a good athlete, but he isn’t a great one. Castle will fit right in the NBA, but he may not have the athleticism to become a star at the next level. He will have to work on his skill and technique to help him score and defend against good athletes in the NBA.
