The New York Knicks will acquire Alec Burks in a trade with the Detroit Pistons for Quentin Grimes and two second-round picks. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news.
New York and Detroit updated the trade. Bojan Bogdanovic will also go to New York, while Detroit will receive Malachi Flynn, Ryan Arcidiacono and Evan Fournier.
Burks, 32, is in his 13th season. He averaged 12.6 points per game for the Pistons this season. Burks previously played for the Knicks from 2020-2021.
Bogdanovic is averaging over 20 points per game in Detroit this season. The 34-year-old can provide a scoring punch for the Knicks.
The re-acquisition of Burks and the addition of Bogdanovic will help the Knicks with their playoff push. They are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. Burks is familiar with head coach Tom Thibodeau’s system.
Detroit is getting future draft compensation for their rebuild. In addition, Grimes is a younger player who average 7.3 points per game this season for the Knicks. Flynn is 25 and averaging 4.2 points pergame. Fournier is a veteran who has only played three games this season, but is averaging 4.0 points. Arcidiacano is also a veteran, but is averaging 0.0 points in 20 games played.
