On Wednesday, the NBA announced the schedule for its upcoming preseason. The NBA preseason is a series of games the league has prior to the start of the season. The preseason lasts for a few weeks, and it gives teams a chance to finalize their rosters for the upcoming season. The preseason is a chance for teams to see their rookies and training camp invitees in action. Then, teams have the opportunity to sign or waive their invitees before the season.

This year, preseason begins on September 30 and ends on October 18, four days before the regular season.
The preseason begins with the Houston Rockets playing the Shanghai Sharks and ends with the New Orleans Pelicans facing the New York Knicks. The preseason features over 70 games, but a select few will be nationally televised. The first televised game will take place on Oct.5 on TNT, and the Pelicans/Knicks game is the final televised game. The first televised game is between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors.
With it being preseason, the matchup won’t be the marquee game fans are expecting in the regular season. However, it gives each teams’ young player a chance to shine. The Lakers and Warriors are two teams competing in the Western Conference, and the preseason game could be the start of a rivalry.
Another notable TV game is the Knicks/Pelicans game. This game features two of the top-3 picks of this year’s draft. Former Duke teammates Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett will face each other before the season. Before the draft, several fans expected Williamson to land with the Knicks. But, Williamson landed with the Pelicans as they received the first pick. His teammate and friend Barrett went to the Knicks instead. So, this could make for an exciting game.
The NBA season is quickly approaching. The season officially begins on October 22. Until then, the preseason gives fans time to enjoy NBA basketball. It is on its way.
