Moses Brown and his Future
Moses Brown proved that he was destined to be a star-center. His rebounding and defensive presence was on full display while playing with the blue and orange. Although he proved to be a force, Presti sent him packing to Bean Town. The Celtics are known to develop stars so this may be a good situation for him. They do have Robert Williams, Al Horford, Tacko Fall, Luke Kornet and Tristan Thompson on the roster as well so he will have his work cut out for him.
Moses Brown and his Future… Continued
Brown is a 7-foot-2 behemoth of a man so his presence will be felt when he plays. His energy on defense and his rim to rim play-style is very important in today’s game. His rebounding skills are also unmatched as he was the first player since Dwight Howard to put up 19 rebounds in a half… against the Celtics. Keep in mind that his defensive rating wasn’t the greatest, but think about the situation he was in. Now the fact that he’s playing for a contending team, he may very well improve his defensive and offensive game.
Who’s the Odd Man Out?
The fact that this team now has five centers under contract (including Brown) is kind of unsettling in terms of playing time but there could be some positives coming. Thompson was already on the Celtics trade block and was even almost moved at the deadline. Due to his limited skillset at 30 years old, he could be on the move very soon. Fall is more than likely not going to be a part of their plans in the future and is more of a fan favorite than a coach favorite. Kornet is in the same boat as Fall: just another benchwarmer who will hardly play any meaningful minutes. These three are more than likely going to remain on the deep part of the bench or be released/traded.
Who’s the Odd Man Out? Continued…
Going over the depth chart, the Celtics need to make some decisions soon. They have an abundance at center when they should really only keep three of them at most. Horford will be the unquestioned starter at center unless they decide to go big and start him at the four. Since Horford has the range and the defensive capabilities to keep up with some forwards, Williams could slide into the starting five. Brown could also wind up starting but he will more than likely come off the bench in Boston.
How Does Trading For Brown Benefit Boston?
Trading for Brown was a very underrated move by Boston. He’s definitely a fun prospect who has the tools to become a defensive anchor who has the rebounding skill of Rudy Gobert. Boston has a project to work with and since he has a fairly cheap contract, they didn’t lose in any aspect of this trade besides the first round pick. Not only do they have a relatively young team anyways, their superstars are only 23 and 25 years old in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Knowing these facts makes Boston fans breathe much easier. Brown will be coached by one of the finer coaching staffs in the entire NBA. Hopefully, his coaching staff can gain his trust and play him minutes out of the gate. If not, Boston knows they have a nice development piece in him. His story will be monitored very closely throughout the season.
