Philadelphia 76ers’ C Joel Embiid will sit out Thursday night’s game against the Knicks. He left Wednesday’s game against the Cavaliers with a shoulder sprain, and did not return. It appears more testing and information is needed on the severity before he can be cleared to play again.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski announced Embiid’s absence Thursday via Twitter.

Embiid has struggled with various injuries since coming into the league. This is the third injury he has suffered this year, along with a finger and an ankle injury. He also missed two seasons directly after being drafted to a foot injury and many setbacks.
He has never played a full season in the NBA since being drafted in 2014. Despite being productive, he cannot seem to stay healthy. To add insult to (literal) injury, the 76ers are underachieving this year. They are fifth in the Eastern Conference at time of writing. This is exacerbated by Ben Simmons being expected to miss a lot of time with a back injury.
Philadelphia hosts the Knicks without their two best players on Thursday night.
