Howard spent one season at Michigan playing for his father Juwan where he impressed. Now he is in the 2023 NBA Draft.
As a four-star recruit from Florida, Howard followed in his dad’s footsteps by signing on for the Wolverines. In his one season for the team, Howard averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. His play helped Michigan win 18 games and make the second round of the NIT.
Following the NIT appearance, Howard declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. He is now a projected first round pick.
Jett Howard Strengths
Howard has the ability to stretch the floor for a team with his 3-point shooting. He knocked down 36.8 percent of his shots from deep in his one season at Michigan. Howard can shoot off the dribble and off the catch, which makes him a more dangerous offensive threat. At his size, his ability to shoot will draw opposing big men away from the basket to open up the floor for the rest of the offense.
He has solid ball handling for a player his size. As mentioned, Howard can create space for himself to pull up from deep, but also can get to his spots to pull up from the mid-range. He can operate the pick and roll, with the ability to score for himself and set up his teammates.
An NBA team will love the versatility Howard can bring their team. He is able to play the small forward spot, which gives them a big lineup. Howard can also play power forward and will help a team go small, without giving up too much height. His ability to stretch the floor and his height will make him a versatile piece for an NBA team.
Jett Howard Weaknesses
Howard possesses just average athleticism. He can finish at the rim at a decent rate, but doesn’t have the best leaping ability. While the body control he has for his size is impressive, he has just average speed and quickness, which impacts a few parts of his game.
On the defensive end, Howard can struggle to stay in front of opponents. He lacks the quick foot speed to be successfully guarding smaller players. Howard is currently best used to guard bigger players, but can give up strength in that regard. He has good defensive effort, but also needs to work on helping his teammates more.
For Howard, it will be important for him to show he can impact the game in more than just scoring. He has the size to pull down more rebounds than he did in college. On defense, he could jump passing lanes more often and even protect the rim a bit more given his size.
Projected Draft Range: First-Round Pick
