Over the weekend the Lakers signed Spencer Dinwiddie after clearing waivers, giving Los Angeles a much-needed boost at the guard position.
Although Dinwiddie is only averaging 39% from the field this season, he can get hot from the three-point line which the Lakers desperately need. With Gabe Vincent out, he will add depth with potentially a scoring touch.
Dinwiddie is supposed to be ready to go when the Lakers face the Pistons on Tuesday night, and it is still a question of where Darvin Ham will fit Dinwiddie into the lineup.Â
Will Dinwiddie be a starter or will he have to bring a spark off the bench?
The starting five has been shaky ever since the season started, especially at the shooting guard position. Austin Reeves, Cam Reddish, and Max Christie have seen time at the two and it feels like this signing might solidify the revolving door in the lineup.
Austin Reeves, who has seen the most time at shooting guard has been inconsistent and the Lakers are looking for a more reliable source of scoring.
If Dinwiddie can get off to a hot start the next couple of contests before the all-star game, there is a chance he could start for the rest of the season.
There is the scenario of Dinwiddie being a part of the second unit when Cam Reddish gets back from injury, that’s why Dinwiddie getting back to his shooting ways can be a big addition for the Lakers. An even bigger addition than any they could have made before the trade deadline.
The Woodland Hills native played with Laker’s point guard D’Angelo Russell during their time in Brooklyn and we could see that chemistry come alive for the purple and gold. He also will be returning to his hometown which will add more comfortability for the new Laker.
The Lakers are banking on a change of scenery mixed with familiarity to kick off a memorable first season with his childhood team.
