Clingan won two championships with UConn, having a good college career as a result. He is now in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As a four-star prospect, Clingan decided to stay in-state to play for the Huskies. In his freshman season, he averaged 6.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game as a reserve. His contributions helped the Huskies win the National Championship. He returned for his sophomore year, where he entered the starting lineup, putting up 13 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. Clingan was a driving force on the second National Championship team in as many years for UConn.
Following the back-to-back National Championships, Clingan declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a top 10 pick.
Donovan Clingan Strengths
Clingan can match up with other centers in the NBA because of his size. He is 7-foot-1 and 282 pounds. To go with his size, he has a good wingspan that reaches over 7-foot-6 inches. His size is useful as well because he has good body control and decent athleticism.
The biggest asset in Clingan’s game is his ability to protect the rim. He can guard his man and block shots in one-on-one situations. Clingan also shows good help defense and awareness by blocking shots after he comes from the weakside. Even when he doesn’t get blocks, he can deter people from coming in the lane, which changes the game.
He can clean things up by rebounding well. Clingan sees the ball really well and is able to judge where it will come off the rim. He boxes out well and highpoints the ball to secure it. Clingan rebounds well on both ends of the floor, as he averaged 2.5 offensive rebounds per game last season.
Donovan Clingan Weaknesses
Clingan has trouble shooting in a few different areas He did not take or make many 3-pointers at UConn. His mid-range game is modest at best. This will limit his ability to stretch the floor and space things out. He also shoots poorly from the free throw line, making just 58 percent last season.
While he showed improved post moves in his sophomore season, he still has a long way to go in order to be a consistent offensive threat in the paint. He can dunk if close enough and showed some good hooks, but needs to continue working on his footwork and adding more moves to his game.
His defense is solid when he protects the rim, but Clingan can struggle to guard on the perimeter. He struggles to stay in front of smaller and quicker players. This could really hurt him if the other team decided to go small or if he has to switch onto a guard.
Projected Draft Range: Top 10 Pick
