Devin Carter Strengths
Carter is a ferocious defender and one of the best in the class. He stays attached and can lock down an opposing team’s best player. While he doesn’t have the greatest size, he uses his quickness to stay in front of drivers. He understands how to be a good team defender as well, helping and rotating when necessary.
While he isn’t the biggest player, Carter showed he can finish at the basket well. He can contort his body in the air in a way to help him finish around taller players. Carter can finish through contact as well. Once he gets to the paint, he has shown he knows how to get the ball in the basket.
For his size, Carter is a good rebounder. He averaged 8.7 rebounds per game this past season. Carter isn’t afraid to battle with much bigger players. He boxes out well, then goes and gets the basketball with quickness. Carter has a role in the NBA as a good glue-guy because his good defense and rebounding can really help.
Devin Carter Weaknesses
Carter improved his shooting his last season in college. He knocked down 37.7 percent of his shots from 3-point range, which was drastic improvement from the rest of his college career. Whether that improvement lasts remains to be seen.
His ball-handling can be improved. He doesn’t have the moves to really separate for himself to score. Carter can also turn the ball over too much. For a player that handles the ball a lot, his assist to turnover ratio could be better. Carter shouldn’t be a primary ball-handler at the next level.
He is another smaller guard in this class. Carter is just 6-foot-2 and under 200 pounds. He be mismatched based on size in the NBA. Carter can make up for this by improving his strength, but also using his wingspan well, as he has over 6-foot-8 inches of length.
Projected Draft Range: Lottery Pick
