The Phoenix Suns signed Derrick Jones after he went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft. He spent some time with both the Suns and their G League affiliate for two seasons before joining the Heat. He also bounced around from Miami to their G League team. Jones finally found a consistent NBA starting role with the Trail Blazers and the Bulls, for whom he has played since 2021.
Last season, Jones played 51 games, starting eight. The combo forward scored just 5.6 points per game and grabbed 3.3 rebounds per game. These are both below his career stats of 6.5 and 3.4 points and rebounds per game.
