Carrington vastly outperformed recruiting rankings in his one year at Pittsburgh. Now he is in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As a four-star recruit out of Maryland, Carrington signed with Pittsburgh. He jumped into the starting lineup immediately and created an impact with 13.8 points and 4.1 assists per game. The Panthers did not get an invite to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Following his one season at Pittsburgh, Carrington declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a first round pick.
Carlton Carrington Strengths
Carrington knows how to get his shot off. He can create space for himself, but also shows the ability to play off of a pick. Carrington can pull up from deep or in the mid-range. He plays at his own pace and finds open space to get his shots off from.
He is a good passer, averaging 4.1 assists per game as a freshman. Carrington sees the floor very well and has less turnovers per game than other freshmen guards. He is able to get into the lane, then find an open teammate for a good shot. With time, he can run an NBA offense.
His ability to run the pick and roll well is impressive given his young age. As mentioned, he plays at his own pace, which sometimes has him play quick, but other times has him play slow to set things up. He can score for himself, or pass the the screener. Carrington can also find open players on the perimeter.
Carlton Carrington Weaknesses
His shot selection could improve at the next level. At Pittsburgh, he had some talented teammates, but at times would take contested shots. He also has a tendency to settle for jump shots instead of getting to the rim. This may be because he doesn’t always finish well, but he needs to not settle for bad shots regardless.
Carrington can add some weight to his frame to help him. He weighs less than 200 pounds, but has a frame that can support more weight. Adding weight can help him match up defensively, but also get to his spots on offense.
He may not have the best defensive impact. Carrington can struggle to match up with players on the perimeter. Adding weight will help, but he also needs to improve his ability to stay in front of drivers. He can improve his team defense as well.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
