Cade Cunningham has officially undergone surgery that will end his 2022-2023 season. He suffered a stress fracture in his tibia that required surgery to repair. Reportedly, the surgery was successful and Cunningham is eyeing a return for next season.
The Athletic’s James L. Edwards reported the news via Twitter on Friday.
The 6-foot-7 point guard was drafted with the first overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Oklahoma State. He played just one season of college ball, averaging 20.1 points, 3.5 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game.
In 64 games last year, Cunningham averaged 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. He made the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team during his first year. He’s played in just 12 games this year, putting up just shy of 20 points per game.
