The Los Angeles Lakers made a big move by acquiring Andre Drummond in the trade market. With Anthony Davis still sidelined with an injury and now Lebron added to the injury list, the Lakers needed some help. Also, Drummond at the 5 position allows Davis to play the 4, which is his desired position, once he gets back to the game. Drummond had a workout and practice with the team before Wednesday’s game. He seemed ready to get back to playing basketball after missing about a month. Also, Drummond was ready to win some games for the Lakers.
The Lakers were coming off a two game win streak on Wednesday and were ready for another win. The Lakers played the Milwaukee Bucks, who are third in the Eastern Conference. Drummond got his first start with the Lakers and the energy was high. Unfortunately, Drummond only played 14 minutes on Wednesday.
Late in the first half Drummond left the game due to a toe injury. Then Drummond returned in the second half but only for a few minutes before being ruled out of the game. After the game, Drummond stated that Brook Lopez stepped on his big toe which caused a toe contusion. Frank Vogel stated that Drummond was reevaluated on Thursday and he is listed as day-to-day.
Even in the minutes that Drummond played, he did not play his best. Drummond only had four points, one rebound and two assists with three turnovers. Before the Lakers, in 25 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, his numbers looked better. Drummond was averaging 17.5 points per game, 13.5 rebounds per game and 28.9 minutes per game. The Lakers are expecting and need that type of production from Drummond. Drummond had not been playing games which could have caused this performance disappointment.
With both stars still out for the Lakers, the team needs Drummond. While his first game did not live up to the team’s expectations, Drummond was able to shake the rust off. The Lakers need to make sure that their team stays healthy. The team just needs to hold on until playoffs and Drummond should be able to help.
