This Summer League has been nuts. So many players are fighting for roster spots and 2-way contracts, but that’s what makes this Summer League that much more enjoyable. There are too many players that are performing well right now. This article will include more standouts from this year’s Summer League. 2022 NBA Summer League Standouts PT. 2.
Quentin Grimes: New York Knicks
The second-year guard is having a fantastic Summer League right now. He is averaging 23.5 points, 4.5 boards, 4.3 dimes, 1.3 steals and three turnovers a game on 44% from the field, 34% from three and 68% from the line. The percentages need to be cleaned a tad bit, but he has proven that he is a little too good for the Summer League. Despite looking like a breakout player, he has been in the rumor mill the last couple of days. The team was looking to put together some packages, including Grimes, in order to get Donovan Mitchell. Those plans fell through when Deandre Ayton’s contract was matched by the Suns. Nevertheless, Grimes is looking at potentially more minutes this season due to his stellar play. Expect him to be in contention for the backup point guard spot.
J.D. Davison: Boston Celtics
Davison is looking like another major steal for this club. The 53rd overall pick has put up averages of 12 points, 4.5 boards, 7.8 dimes, 1.5 swipes, 1.5 blocks and three turnovers a game on 40% from the field, 46% from three, and 86% from the free-throw line. The three-point shooting has been other-worldly as he’s averaging 3.3 attempts a game. Also, he’s just a 6-foot-3 guard averaging 1.5 blocks and 4.5 boards a game so his stat profile is certainly eye-popping. Davison is going to be behind the many talented backcourt players that are currently on Boston’s roster, but he’s giving his coaches something to think about.
Braxton Key: Detroit Pistons
Key become a regular rotation player late last season. This season, he is looking to continue that. He is having a solid run right now as he is averaging 11.5 points, 6.8 boards, 2.8 assists, 2.3 steals, 1.3 blocks and 3.5 turnovers a game on 43% from the field, 31% from three and 75% from the line. Key isn’t a household name by any means, but the guy is definitely making a name for himself. Hopefully, he can get a spot in the rotation next year because his defense has been a difference for this team. His per-36 minutes averages from last season are nothing to scoff at either: 14.5 points, nine boards, 1.9 dimes, 1.7 steals, 2.1 blocks and 1.7 turnovers a game.
Josh Christopher: Houston Rockets
Christopher is one of the players to keep an eye on for this upcoming season. He is averaging some nice numbers for the Rockets Summer League squad: 19.7 points, 4.3 boards, three assists, 1.7 steals, 1.7 blocks, and 2.3 turnovers a game on 40% from the field, 13% from three and 83% from the line. The second-year guard is one of the more electrifying players on this Rockets team, so him getting more playing time would be beneficial for both him and the team. His defensive tenacity, offensive flashiness and athleticism are some of his many facets. If he can get the shooting under control, his potential points straight up. The fact that he is on a rebuilding team helps that much more.
