The 2022 NBA Draft is now over. Each team will be given a grade for their picks in the draft. Here are the 2022 NBA Draft Grades.
Eastern Conference
Atlanta Hawks- A
Draft Picks: G/F AJ Griffin, F Tyrese Martin
Keeping the floor open for Trae Young is paramount and Griffin is the best shooter in the draft. Martin is an older prospect, but has shown the ability to do dirty work like rebounding.
Boston Celtics- A
Draft Picks: G JD Davidson,
The Celtics are hoping to find players to make impacts off the bench. Davidson could be that player.
Brooklyn Nets- N/A
Draft Picks: N/A
Charlotte Hornets- A-
Draft Picks: C Mark Williams, G Bryce McGowens, F Josh Minott
The Hornets needed a center to rebound and protect the rim and got Mark Williams with good value at 15. McGowens is a scorer who can develop next to LaMelo Ball. Minott didn’t play a lot at Memphis and has a lot to prove.
Chicago Bulls- C
Draft Picks: G Dalen Terry,
Terry was selected a little too early, but could help fill in if Zach LaVine walks in free agency.
Cleveland Cavaliers- B
Draft Picks: G Ochai Agbaji, C Khalifa Diop, F Isaiah Mobley, F Luke Tarvers
Cleveland got a solid “3 and D” prospect in Agbaji who can help open the floor up for Darius Garland and Collin Sexton. Diop can run the floor and block shots. Mobley isn’t expected to be as good as his brother, but he can stretch the floor and score.
Detroit Pistons- A
Draft Picks: G Jaden Ivey, C Jalen Duren, G Gabriele Procida
The Pistons selected at no. 5, but were fortunate enough to land Jaden Ivey, a top-two prospect in this class. He and Cade Cunningham can both handle the ball and run the offense together. Trading for a rim-protecting big man like Duren presented good value and will help the team right away. Procida is a noted shooter.
Indianapolis Pacers- B
Draft Picks: G/F Bennedict Mathurin, PG Andrew Nembhard, F Kendall Brown
Indiana has been rumored to shop their players out. Drafting Mathurin gives them a scorer who could be the focal point during a rebuild. If Malcolm Brogden is shopped, Nembhard can shoot and run the pick and roll well as a good passing point guard. Brown was a first round value that the Pacers were able to snag in the middle of the second round.
Miami Heat- B
Draft Picks: F Nikola Jovic
Jovic has some good ball-handling and shooting for a player of his size. He could create mismatches for the Heat.
Milwaukee Bucks- B+
Draft Picks: G MarJon Beauchamp, F Gui Santos, G Hugo Besson
Beauchamp will bring a guard who can get to the basket and create space for others to thrive.
New York Knicks- B
Draft Picks: G Trevor Keels
Keels is a well-built player who can handle the ball. After trading out of the first round, the Knicks have plenty of future first-round picks.
Orlando Magic- A
Draft Picks: F Paolo Banchero, F Caleb Houstan
The Magic took the most pro-ready in the draft with Banchero, who can complement their young backcourt. Houstan was a highly-ranked recruit who didn’t play extremely well.
Philadelphia 76ers- N/A
Draft Picks: N/A
Toronto Raptors- B
Draft Picks: C Christian Koloko
Koloko can protect the rim and switch to guard multiple positions defensively.
Washington Wizards- A
Draft Picks: G Johnny Davis, C Yannick Nzosa
Davis slipped to the Wizards and can provide another proven scorer to the team beside Bradley Beal. Nzosa can develop into a nice defensive center.
Western Conference
Dallas Mavericks- A
Draft Picks: G Jaden Hardy,
Hardy was a highly-ranked recruit, but shot inefficiently in the G-League.
Denver Nuggets- B
Draft Picks: G/F Christian Braun, F Peyton Watson, C Ismael Kamagate
Braun is a great athlete and can knock down 3-pointers. He is best off ball, but can be on the receiving end of some passes from Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic. Watson was a bit of a reach, but could turn into a solid defender. Getting a future backup center for Nikola Jokic was a solid idea when the Nuggets took Kamagate.
Golden State Warriors- B
Draft Picks: F Patrick Baldwin, G Ryan Rollins
Golden State has the luxury of taking a risk on Baldwin, who didn’t play his best at Milwaukee after being a highly-rated recruit. He is technically skilled for a player of his size.
Houston Rockets- B
Draft Picks: F Jabari Smith, F Tari Eason, G TyTy Washington
The Rockets have focused on their backcourt a lot over the last few offseasons and selected a forward to help spread the floor with his athleticism. Eason plays a similar position to Smith, but can help defensively and with spreading the floor. At the end of the first round, Washington provided great value, as he can shoot and handle the ball well.
Los Angeles Clippers- D
Draft Picks: F Moussa Diabate,
Diabate showed good athleticism but needs to show more technical skill in the NBA.
Los Angeles Lakers- B
Draft Picks: F Max Christie
Christie needs to work on his 3-point shot, but has some athleticism to tap into.
Memphis Grizzlies- D
Draft Picks: F Jake LaRavia, F David Roddy, F Vince Williams
LaRavia was selected way too soon, but will help spread the floor. Drafting Roddy gives the Grizzlies some versatility, but was also drafted too early. Williams really improved his shooting during his college career.
Minnesota Timberwolves- B
Draft Picks: C Walker Kessler, G/F Wendell Moore, G Matt Spagnolo
Minnesota needed some rim protection and got exactly what they needed with Kessler, who is the best shot-blocker in the class. Moore can provide a scoring wing who can make an impact off the bench.
New Orleans Pelicans- B-
Draft Picks: PG Dyson Daniels, F E.J. Lidell, F Karlo Matkovic,
The Pelicans may have to develop Daniels a little bit before he is ready for major minutes. He passes well and will need to hunt his shot more in the NBA. Lidell can score and block shots for the Pelicans.
Oklahoma City Thunder- C
Draft Picks: F Chet Holmgren, F Ousmane Dieng, G Jalen Williams, F Jaylin Williams
Holmgren has to fill out for the NBA, but he has guard-like skills for such a tall player. He fits well with the young backcourt of the Thunder. Trading up one pick to select Dieng seemed unnecessary. Jalen Williams was a reach, but will provide some shooting. Jaylin Williams will take chargers and compete well on defense.
Phoenix Suns- N/A
Draft Picks: N/A
Portland Trail Blazers- B
Draft Picks: G Shaedon Sharpe, F Jabari Walker
Sharpe didn’t play at Kentucky, but practiced with the team. He has good athleticism and shooting, which could take some pressure off of Damian Lillard.
Sacramento Kings- C
Draft Picks: F Keegan Murray,
Murray isn’t one of the top four prospects and the Kings could’ve traded out. He does fit in with what they need, as a forward who can score, but there was a clear drop-off after the top four.
San Antonio Spurs- C+
Draft Picks: F Jeremy Sochan, G Malaki Branham, G Blake Wesley, G Kennedy Chandler
Sochan can provide some good defense, but was selected entirely too early for someone who needs to work on his shooting so much. Branham can help provide scoring and was selected with good value. Wesley was a good pick and can provide solid perimeter defense. Chandler is a good point guard who can provide some help off the bench.
Utah Jazz- N/A
Draft Picks: N/A
