The Los Angeles Angels and starter Trevor Cahill agreed to a one-year deal Thursday afternoon. The deal is worth $9 million.
Last year with the Oakland Athletics, Cahill went 7-4 with a 3.76 ERA in 110 innings.
Cahill joins Matt Harvey, who the Angels signed two days earlier. The move is to help the Angels bolster their starting rotation that has been lacking in years past. Cahill was an All-Star in 2010 and is coming off a solid season despite missing time due to injury. He helped lead the Athletics to a surprise wild card appearance.
The signing comes in the wake of missing out on prized free agent Patrick Corbin and World Series hero Nathan Eovaldi. Both signed large contracts and L.A. was smart to hold off. They are attempting to build a winner around superstar Mike Trout, but do not want to mortgage the future in case he leaves.
