The Red Sox sweep the series against the Yankees at Fenway Park in round two of The Rivalry. This article will recap the series.
Game 1: Red Sox win 15-5
The Red Sox were in control of this game since the first pitch. The runs kept piling on, and most of them in part to Justin Turner’s two home runs, one a two run homer and the other a grand slam.
Masataka Yoshida and Tanner Houck were also key players in this game. Yoshida also helped do a part of the damage, by going four for four, and getting three RBI. Houck pitched a great game four four innings only giving up a run in the first, and holding the Yankees scoreless until he was nailed in the face by a line drive and had to exit the game.
The Yankee didn’t until the sixth inning where they got three, and then one in the eighth, but they could not overcome the deficit.
Game 2: Red Sox win 6-2
While this game was not as action packed as the first, it was still a fun game. The Red Sox were able to score my bust getting hitting streaks going from the top and middle of their lineup.
As for pitching, Kaleb Ort gave up two runs in the first, and was taken out after two innings. After that, it became a reliever game, until Nick Pivetta came in and dominated for four innings, coming out for Chris Martin in the ninth to seal the game and give Pivetta the win.
Game 3: Red Sox win 4-1
In the final game of the series, the Yankees succumbed to an elite pitching performance by the Sox, and led to them losing and getting swept. The main star of the game was young arm Brayan Bello, the future of the Red Sox’s starting lineup.
Bello was able to go seven innings, and in the process gave up only one run in the first, and held New York scoreless for the next six. Bello also got eight strikeouts in the process, and only gave up three walks. The game was then closed out by Josh Winckowski and Kenley Jansen in the eighth and ninth innings.
Bello seems to be getting better with each start, drawing comparisons as the next Pedro Martinez, but he definitely needs more experience before he gets to that level.
Since the Red Sox sweep the series, this makes them 5-1 this season against the Yankees. They also made history on Sunday as the second time in 40 years where they swept in a doubleheader at Fenway against the Yankees, the last time being in 2006.
The next series for the Sox will start on June 19 against the Twins in Minnesota.
