Every week MLB teams will be ranked for the rest of the season. Here are the 2023 MLB power rankings for the week of June 12.
1. Tampa Bay Rays
Record: 48-20
Previous Ranking: 1
The Rays swept the Twins this week and continued to cement themselves as the best team in the league. The Rangers stay right on their tail with an incredible three game series to round out the week.
2. Texas Rangers
Record: 41-23
Previous Ranking: 2
Nathan Eovaldi and Jon Gray have been Cy Young caliber pitchers this year. Pairing that with one of the deadliest offenses in the game, the Rangers are extremely dangerous.
3. Atlanta Braves
Record: 40-25
Previous Ranking: 8
Ronald Acuna hasn’t broken stride in the last few weeks, continuing as one of the top hitters in the MLB. Spencer Strider on the other hand, has hit a rough patch. He’s raised his ERA by 2 runs in just over a month.
4. Baltimore Orioles
Record: 41-24
Previous Ranking: 3
The Orioles end the week riding a 4-game winning streak, including a sweep of the Royals. They have multiple players that will receive major attention at the start of All-Star Game voting.
5. Arizona Diamondbacks
Record: 40-25
Previous Ranking: 7
The Diamondbacks have gone ahead and taken the NL West over. They have a multiple game lead and are the hottest team in the division. 2023 could be their year.
6. Los Angeles Dodgers
Record: 37-29
Previous Ranking: 4
The Dodgers have lost their last three series, including a series to the Reds and the Phillies this week. Freddie Freeman remains one of the best hitters in the game.
7. Houston Astros
Record: 37-29
Previous Ranking: 6
The Astros have been struggling a bit as of late. Not too many of their team has been hot, beside a few players. Yordan Alvarez has been one of their better players all season.
8. New York Yankees
Record: 38-28
Previous Ranking: 5
The Yankees are still awaiting the return of their superstar captain, Aaron Judge. They need to keep themselves afloat in the AL East race while Judge is out, so they can make their push when he returns.
9. Toronto Blue Jays
Record: 37-30
Previous Ranking: 9
Anthony Bass was designated for assignment and Alek Manoah was sent down to try to get back to his 2022 self. The Blue Jays lineup will need to be great to keep them afloat for now.
10. Miami Marlins
Record: 37-29
Previous Ranking: 13
Luis Arraez has a real chance to hit .400 this year. It will involve a lot of luck, hot streaks, and hits but the possibility is there and that achievement would launch him into the NL MVP race.
11. Los Angeles Angels
Record: 36-31
Previous Ranking: 16
Shohei Ohtani has been the best player on the Angels. His days in Los Angeles may be numbered, as nobody is quite if he will resign with them after his contract expires.
12. Pittsburgh Pirates
Record: 34-30
Previous Ranking: 12
This week, Andrew McCutchen tallied his 2,000th career hit. Cutch has completely revitalized his career with a return to Pittsburgh. He looks to lead the surging Pirates to the NL Central title.
13. Minnesota Twins
Record: 33-33
Previous Ranking: 11
The Twins have been the victim of bad luck this year. Their record doesn’t reflect their run differential. They sit at .500 but they are +40 in run differential.
14. Milwaukee Brewers
Record: 34-32
Previous Ranking: 10
The Brewers have reached a new low for the 2023 season. They were swept by the last place Athletics, the first time the Athletics swept an opponent all season.
15. Philadelphia Phillies
Record: 32-33
Previous Ranking: 20
Nick Castellanos has been back to the player he was in his last season with the Reds. If he can increase his power numbers to go with his average, the Phillies could get very hot, very fast.
16. San Francisco Giants
Record: 33-32
Previous Ranking: 15
The Giants have seen some good surprises this year. Trevor Rogers and Camilo Duval have been lights out handling the 8th and 9th innings of games in San Francisco.
17. Boston Red Sox
Record: 32-33
Previous Ranking: 14
The Red Sox pitching staff needs to be better. They have held this team back tremendously, pitching to a team ERA near 5.00. The lineup has been better than many expected.
18. Seattle Mariners
Record: 31-33
Previous Ranking: 17
The Mariners have found themselves floating at around .500 for most of the season. Their offense has really let them down as they feature no hitters hitting above .280.
19. San Diego Padres
Record: 31-33
Previous Ranking: 21
Fernando Tatis has been the Padres best offensive player, leading them in average, home runs, and RBIs. They end the week on a much-needed winning streak.
20. Cleveland Guardians
Record: 31-34
Previous Ranking: 19
The Guardians stole a series from the Red Sox and a series from the Astros this week. They have seen some production from their younger guys to start this 2023 season.
21. Cincinnati Reds
Record: 31-35
Previous Ranking: 23
Elly De La Cruz is here, and he is even better than expected. He has showed flashes of superstar potential, stealing multiple bases and tallying a handful of extra base hits in his first week in the MLB.
22. New York Mets
Record: 31-35
Previous Ranking: 18
What Pete Alonso has done in 2023 has been incredible. His power numbers have potential to rival some of the best seasons in National League history in terms of home runs.
23. Chicago Cubs
Record: 28-37
Previous Ranking: 24
Kyle Hendricks carried the deepest no hitter this season, into the 8th inning of a game against the Giants. He would end up losing it in the 8th, but it begs the question, when the will first 2023 no hitter be thrown?
24. Chicago White Sox
Record: 29-38
Previous Ranking: 27
The White Sox have gotten hot over the last two weeks. They took a series over the Yankees as well as a sweep over the Tigers. They let game 3 with the Marlins slip away, dropping that series to end the week.
25. St. Louis Cardinals
Record: 27-39
Previous Ranking: 28
The Cardinals have seen flashes of potential from their top prospect, Jordan Walker. Walker has shown serious arm strength and serious power in his time in the MLB.
26. Washington Nationals
Record: 26-38
Previous Ranking: 26
The Nationals farm system was on fire this week. Two of their top prospects, James Wood and Robert Hassell III hit long home runs this week.
27. Detroit Tigers
Record: 26-37
Previous Ranking: 22
The Tigers have struggled mightily, losing a game to the Diamondbacks that they should have been in. Luckily, Matt Manning began a rehab assignment in Triple-A this week.
28. Colorado Rockies
Record: 26-40
Previous Ranking: 25
The Rockies second ranked prospect, Adael Amador was incredible this week. In a single game, he reached base six times, tallying 4 hits and 4 RBIs.
29. Kansas City Royals
Record: 18-47
Previous Ranking: 29
The Royals suffered two series losses this week, including a sweep from the Marlins. They are currently in a race to 20 wins with the Oakland Athletics, the only two teams to not have 20 wins yet.
30. Oakland Athletics
Record: 17-50
Previous Ranking: 30
The Athletics are hot? They broke lose for TWO series win this week over the Pirates and the Brewers. This is their first winning streak of at least four games in the 2023 season.
