The Chicago Cubs are stealing one of the best managers in the game from a divisional rival. Former Milwaukee Brewers manager, Craig Counsell is now set to take the position for the Chicago Cubs on a $8 million per year contract.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the news about his salary via Twitter on Monday.
David Ross, who won the World Series with the Cubs and helped break the 108-year streak without a championship, had managed for the team for four seasons. He went 262-284 over those three years, winning the NL Central once and appearing in just one postseason.
Counsell has been the Brewers’ manager since 2015. In his nine years as a skipper, he led the Brewers to five playoff appearances and won the NL Central three times. Since losing the NLCS to the Dodgers in 2018, he led the Brew Crew past the Wild Card round just once.
