The 2023 MLB season is warming up as pitchers and catchers have officially reported, and spring training draws closer. In this series of articles, TGH is going to be giving an early look at every team’s projected pitching rotations ahead of Opening Day on March 30. Here is the 2023 pitching rotation for the Colorado Rockies.
**Note: As these are very early projections, the pitching rotations are subject to change before the season officially begins.**
Rockies 2022 Season Review
The Rockies finished last in the NL West last season, with a record of 68-94, six games behind the Diamondbacks who ended the season in fourth. They signed Kris Bryant to a seven year deal in March of 2022.
2023 Projected Pitching Rotation
1. German Marquez
2022 stats: 9-13, 4.95 ERA, 181.2 IP, 100 ER
Marquez’s ERA rose .45 points from 2021 to 2022. He earned an All-Star appearance in 2021 and pitched three complete games. He had none in 2022.
2. Kyle Freeland
2022 stats: 9-11, 4.53 ERA, 174.2 IP, 88 ER
In 31 games, Freeland could only muster nine wins behind a not-so-great offense.
3. Jose Urena
2022 stats: 3-8, 5.01 ERA, 97.0 IP, 54 ER
Urena bounced around from the Brewers to the Rockies last year, catching an ERA of 5.14 in 89.1 innings after the trade.
4. Austin Gomber
2022 stats: 5-7, 5.56 ERA, 124.2 IP, 77 ER
Gomber pitched the most innings of his career last year, but also collected the highest ERA of his MLB tenure by 1.03.
5. Connor Seabold
2022 stats: 0-4, 11.29 ERA, 18.1 IP, 23 ER
Seabold wasn’t used much during his previous two years in Boston. His 11.29 ERA can be attributed to his tiny workload.
