The 2023 MLB season is warming up as pitchers and catchers have officially reported, and spring training draws closer. In this series of articles, TGH is going to be giving an early look at every team’s projected pitching rotations ahead of Opening Day on March 30. Here is the 2023 pitching rotation for the Cleveland Guardians.
**Note: As these are very early projections, the pitching rotations are subject to change before the season officially begins.**
Guardians 2022 Season Review
The Guardians were on top of the AL Central last year, with a record of 92-70. After defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in the Wild Card, Cleveland eventually lost in five games to the Yankees in the ALDS.
2023 Projected Pitching Rotation
1. Shane Bieber
2022 stats: 13-8, 2.88 ERA, 200.0 IP, 64 ER
Bieber was excellent again last year, finishing seventh in AL Cy Young voting and his first Gold Glove Award.
2. Triston McKenzie
2022 stats: 11-11, 2.96 ERA, 191.1 IP, 63 ER
McKenzie pitched the most innings of his career in 2022, his third year in the majors. His sub-3.00 ERA was also the best of his career, despite a larger sample size.
3. Cal Quantrill
2022 stats: 15-5, 3.38 ERA, 186.1 IP, 70 ER
Quantril was another workhorse for the Guardians last season, pitching over 180 innings and winning a massive 15 games.
4. Aaron Civale
2022 stats: 5-6, 4.92 ERA, 97.0 IP, 53 ER
2022 marked the second-most innings pitched in Civale’s career. He ended the year under .500 in 20 starts.
5. Zach Plesac
2022 stats: 3-12, 4.31 ERA, 131.2 IP, 63 ER
Plesac started 24 games, and appeared in 25. He won only three of those games and lost 12. His 4.31 ERA was the second-worst of his career.
